Commerce

From the time that men began to live in cities, trade, in some shape, must have been carried on to supply the town-dwellers with necessaries from foreign as well as native sources, for we find that Abraham was rich, not only in cattle, but in silver, gold and gold and silver plate and ornaments. (Genesis 13:2; 24:22,53) Among trading nations mentioned in Scripture, Egypt holds in very early times a prominent position. The internal trade of the Jews, as well as the external, was much promoted by the festivals, which brought large numbers of persons to Jerusalem. (1 Kings 8:63) The places of public market were chiefly the open spaces near the gates, to which goods were brought for sale by those who came from the outside. (Nehemiah 13:15,16; Zephaniah 1:10) The traders in later times were allowed to intrude into the temple, in the outer courts of which victims were publicly sold for the sacrifice. (Zechariah 14:21; Matthew 21:12; John 2:14)

International Taxation in America Foreign Trust and Cloud E-commerce Taxation (International Taxation in America, 2012 Edition)

International Taxation in America Foreign Trust and Cloud E-commerce Taxation (International Taxation in America, 2012 Edition)by Brian DooleyBrian Dooley, CPA, MBT

E-commerce's innovation has left gaps in U.S. tax laws.

Chapter One is the only treatise that examines the ineptness of Congress in using ancient tax laws for today's virtual world and E-commerce. Ironically, trusts (which have been used by the wealthy since the Great Crusades) are the ideal tool.

Look at this change. In 1910, electricity was not in the White House. Cars were laughed at, with jokes like, “Get a horse!” Phones were rare, and there was no air travel.

Foreign trusts have been used by entrepreneurs for cross border business starting in the 1960's with Nat King Cole. Chapter One explains the use of foreign trusts for international estate planning and international business. Deferring income taxes for 365 years with a Nevada Trust is discussed in this Chapter One and Chapter Six.

The Long Tail: Rewriting the Rules of Culture and Commerce

The Long Tail: Rewriting the Rules of Culture and Commerceby Chris AndersonRandom House

Business Law: Text and Cases: Legal, Ethical, Global, and E-Commerce Environments

The Ecology of Commerce Revised Edition: A Declaration of Sustainability (Collins Business Essentials)

The Ecology of Commerce Revised Edition: A Declaration of Sustainability (Collins Business Essentials)by Paul HawkenHarperBusiness

The world has changed in the seventeen years since the controversial initial publication of Paul Hawken's Ecology of Commerce, a stirring treatise about the perceived antagonism between ecology and business. Yet Hawken's impassioned argument—that business both causes the most egregious abuses of the environment and, crucially, holds the most potential for solving our sustainability problems—is more relevant and resonant than ever.

Containing updated and revised material for a new audience, The Ecology of Commerce presents a compelling vision of the restorative (rather than destructive) economy we must create, centered on eight imperatives:

  • Reduce energy carbon emissions 80 percent by 2030 and total natural resource usage 80 percent by 2050.
  • Provide secure, stable, and meaningful employment to people everywhere.
  • Be self-organizing rather than regulated or morally mandated.
  • Honor market principles.
  • Restore habitats, ecosystems, and societies to their optimum.
  • Rely on current income.
  • Be fun and engaging, and strive for an aesthetic outcome.

Paul Hawken, the entrepreneur behind the Smith & Hawken gardening supplies empire, is no ordinary capitalist. Drawing as much on Baba Ram Dass and Vaclav Havel as he does on Peter Drucker and WalMart for his case studies, Hawken is on a one-man crusade to reform our economic system by demanding that First World businesses reduce their consumption of energy and resources by 80 percent in the next 50 years. As if that weren't enough, Hawken argues that business goals should be redefined to embrace such fuzzy categories as whether the work is aesthetically pleasing and the employees are having fun; this applies to corporate giants and mom-and-pop operations alike. He proposes a culture of business in which the real world, the natural world, is allowed to flourish as well, and in which the planet's needs are addressed. Wall Street may not be ready for Hawken's provocative brand of environmental awareness, but this fine book is full of captivating ideas.

Remix: Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy

Remix: Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economyby Lawrence LessigPenguin Press HC, The

The author of Free Culture shows how we harm our children—and almost anyone who creates, enjoys, or sells any art form—with a restrictive copyright system driven by corporate interests. Lessig reveals the solutions to this impasse offered by a collaborative yet profitable “hybrid economy”.

Lawrence Lessig, the reigning authority on intellectual property in the Internet age, spotlights the newest and possibly the most harmful culture war—a war waged against our kids and others who create and consume art. America’s copyright laws have ceased to perform their original, beneficial role: protecting artists’ creations while allowing them to build on previous creative works. In fact, our system now criminalizes those very actions.

For many, new technologies have made it irresistible to flout these unreasonable and ultimately untenable laws. Some of today’s most talented artists are felons, and so are our kids, who see no reason why they shouldn’t do what their computers and the Web let them do, from burning a copyrighted CD for a friend to “biting” riffs from films, videos, songs, etc and making new art from them.

Criminalizing our children and others is exactly what our society should not do, and Lessig shows how we can and must end this conflict—a war as ill conceived and unwinnable as the war on drugs. By embracing “read-write culture,” which allows its users to create art as readily as they consume it, we can ensure that creators get the support—artistic, commercial, and ethical—that they deserve and need. Indeed, we can already see glimmers of a new hybrid economy that combines the profit motives of traditional business with the “sharing economy” evident in such Web sites as Wikipedia and YouTube. The hybrid economy will become ever more prominent in every creative realm—from news to music—and Lessig shows how we can and should use it to benefit those who make and consume culture.

Remix is an urgent, eloquent plea to end a war that harms our children and other intrepid creative users of new technologies. It also offers an inspiring vision of the post-war world where enormous opportunities await those who view art as a resource to be shared openly rather than a commodity to be hoarded.
